About The Position

Reporting to the AVP of Government and Institutional Giving, the new Director of Foundation Relations will create and implement development strategies that enhance relationships with our private foundation donors, increase overall support across stakeholders, and expand the donor base to support programmatic needs and the organization’s revenue targets. The Director works closely with the President and CEO, Board of Directors, Chief Development Officer, and other senior leaders to cultivate and steward relationships with foundation donors and prospects capable of making five- and seven-figure gifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with 5+ years of professional experience in managing relationships with foundation donors, grant writing or fundraising operations.
  • Passion for anti-poverty work and adherence to the highest ethical standards.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain positive relationships with a variety of foundation types and with internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends in the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience conveying complex concepts in a clear, persuasive, and succinct manner.
  • Familiarity with program budgets and the principles of program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with issues pertaining to homeless services, affordable housing, behavioral health and substance use disorders, economic empowerment, and intimate partner violence is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the AVP Institutional Giving, develop donor cultivation and stewardship plans to support private foundation growth that is aligned with VOA-GNY’s vision, strategic plan, and fundraising priorities.
  • Collaborating with staff across the organization (i.e. program, finance, research and evaluation), lead and/or support the development of complex grant proposals aligned with the organization’s capabilities and strategic goals.
  • Create and facilitate cultivation and stewardship events, round table discussions or recognition opportunities appropriate for foundation donors.
  • Collaborate in the planning of fundraising events and activities including the annual gala.
  • Develop and implement donor communication strategies, including calendars and timelines.
  • Become an expert in describing the work of VOA-GNY and the experience of the clients we serve, getting to know staff members, programs, and clients in order to articulate the case for support.
