About The Position

What We Can Achieve Together: The Foundation Relations Manager will work as part of the New Hampshire development team and is responsible for managing a portfolio of foundations and individual donors. They will demonstrate a deep understanding of foundation partnerships and fundraising principles. They will manage the private proposal and reports calendar and help lead the organization’s foundation fundraising, tracking and meeting multiple deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate management of grants, proposals, reports, and other personalized communications for foundation and other donor audiences, developing and maintaining relationships with a portfolio of 15-20 foundations and foundation representatives and 10-15 individual donors, and identifying new foundation fundraising opportunities. They will be responsible for developing proposals and making direct asks to meet funding needs for both global and local priorities. They involve and engage appropriate partners in the field and throughout the New Hampshire office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and/or concerns, and address questions as needed. They will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database and will develop proposals. YOUR POSITION WITH TNC The Foundation Relations Manager (FRM) is a skilled front-line fundraiser responsible for designing and executing foundation and major gift solicitation strategies targeting donors and prospects capable of making significant or deferred contributions. This role supports TNC in New Hampshire's pursuit of ambitious 2030 Goals for nature and people. They will leverage their project management acumen, collaboration, writing and editing skills, and relationship-building skills as they work across multiple teams and gain in-depth exposure to our programs to translate our conservation vision, strategies, projects, and impact into powerful content that wins hearts and minds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience or equivalent fundraising or business development experience.
  • Experience coordinating projects.
  • Experience generating reports and analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience with current technology in relevant field.
  • Experience working across departments.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience with database management.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the nonprofit fundraising field

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 15-20 corporate/foundation donors across New Hampshire and Vermont.
  • Responsible for 40-60 moves and interactions annually, including 20-30 letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other personalized communications.
  • Manage a portfolio of 10 – 15 individual donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $100,000.
  • Responsible for 10-15 visits and 40-60 moves annually with these donors.
  • Serve as the contact for the NH and VT Conservation teams for questions related to opportunities, foundation strategies, and goal setting.
  • Identify and evaluate prospective foundations, aligning their funding priorities with conservation initiatives in NH and/or VT.
  • Coordinate across multiple departments, set realistic deadlines, and manage timelines to ensure on-time proposal submissions.
  • Ensure quality and consistency of development messages through a variety of channels including: fundraising/major gift proposals, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship communications.
  • Manage and implement projects by setting timelines, coordinating with stakeholders, meeting deadlines; and be accountable for achieving project objectives.
  • Build and manage external relationships with foundation representatives and donors, as well as internal relationships with Development team members, Communications staff, Finance Manager, and conservation staff.
  • Create effective grant proposals, letters of inquiry, acknowledgement letters, progress and stewardship reports, profiles, campaign collateral, talking points, and other donor-centered communications.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Conservancy business and confidential foundation and donor information.
  • Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks in the absence of specific instructions and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
  • Does not supervise any staff but may manage work of peers on departmental project teams.
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
  • This is a hybrid position.
  • Travel locally and occasional travel for trainings, retreats and events.
