About The Position

This opportunity involves leading, guiding, and supporting a portfolio of projects within Texas Transportation, with the goal of growing all business lines to meet client objectives. WSP is seeking a Transportation Director/Local Business Line Lead for their San Antonio, TX office. This role is a key strategic leadership position in Texas, aimed at strengthening and expanding WSP's Transportation practice. The candidate will play a critical role in the growth and development of South and Central Texas, working with key public agencies such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Alamo Area MPO, VIA, Bexar County, Alamo RMA, City of San Antonio, and City of New Braunfels. The role also requires leveraging cross-collaboration with other WSP sectors including Property and Buildings, Energy, Water, Federal, Advisory Services, and PMCM to deliver value to clients.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in transportation engineering or equivalent experience in the A/E/C industry with a strong focus in transportation infrastructure
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas
• Experience in the design and project management of transportation infrastructure projects (highways, collectors, arterials, local roads, bike and pedestrian shared use paths, etc.)
• Demonstrated goal-oriented experience of leadership, personal accountability, and persistence
• Effective communication with team members and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met
• Proven experience in professional communication, including presentations, written reports, and group facilitation
• Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement
• Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes
• Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice
• Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area
• Commitment to internal and external client service
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Responsibilities

• Optimizes the client and employee experience through regular review and implement process improvements
• Focuses on innovation and enhancing health & safety, quality and sustainable standards
• Develops local growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with Local, Regional and National Business Line Leaders
• Resolves conflict and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects
• Collaborate with regional, district leaders and other area leaders to strategically drive the business, manage project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and meet operational financial metrics
• Works with the Business Line leader to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive
• Emphasizes employee training and development to create a unique work experience

• Advances the strategic direction of the district and region in the location of responsibility for sustained and continued growth consistent within the context of the strategic plan
• Encourages, supports and promotes the technical and professional development of local WSP staff
• Key performance indicators include: EBITDA, Organic Growth, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Diversity and Guiding Principles
