About The Position

Assumes responsibility for the overall organization and management of the technical and professional clinical services of the Pathology service line for DHH. Oversees all sections including Hematology and Chemistry, Anatomic Pathology, Microbiology, Clinical Genomics & Advanced Technology, and Transfusion Medicine and Services. Organizes and manages the financial affairs of the service line. Provides direction and guidance to managers and supervisors in planning, organizing and directing the operations of the service line. Effectively develops strategic, operational, and capital plans. Partners with leadership at all DHH sites plus 11 community hospitals to insure successful Pathology operations.

Requirements

  • Prior management experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred.
  • The ability to work effectively with a broad range of people and to manage within a complex organizational system.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, communication and administrative skills required.
  • Master’s Degree in business or health care administration preferred with 10 years of experience including 5 years of managing administrative and/or financial functions in a clinical laboratory or the equivalent in education and experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages activities and resources to ensure high quality of service.
  • Provides day to day operational management of laboratory services through effective delegation and leadership. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and their requirements across 18+ sites.
  • Develops, plans, monitors, adjusts, and integrates fiscal affairs to achieve short and long term department goals. This includes developing annual budgets of approximately $340 million for professional, technical and contract revenue, volumes, and expenses. Develops capital equipment budgets, maintaining operational control to affect necessary services within the plans, developing systems to provide useful measures to follow departmental performance, etc.
  • Works to achieve program coordination among the diverse sections of the Department, and to integrate services with other agencies, persons and departments.
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates use of space and equipment for all sections of the department, integrating services with other agencies, persons and departments.
  • Manages the financial and personnel affairs and oversees 36 faculty and approximately 350 staff. Maintains an adequate and qualified Laboratory staff. Selects, assigns, directs, evaluates, and promotes/terminates personnel.
  • Provides operational direction and supervision of the Department's lab management teams including: Lab managers, Safety, Compliance, POC, and QA.
  • Leads the department activities to meet the standards of regulatory requirements with all pertinent agencies (i.e., CAP, AABB, TJC, OSHA, DPH, etc).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
