About The Position

The Senior Director of Facilities Support Services provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and administrative governance for a comprehensive portfolio of campus service functions. This position is responsible for integrated facilities service delivery, operational logistics, contract management, infrastructure support services, policy development, and 24/7 response coordination. The role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, service responsiveness, fiscal accountability, and continuous improvement across multiple service units that directly support the academic, research, and administrative mission of the university. Salary range: $158,000 - $162,000 per year, commensurate experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including five (5) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

Evidence of: Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration (MBA), Public Administration (MPA), Engineering, Construction Management, Organizational Leadership, or related field.
Professional certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP), Certified Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification preferred.
Experience in: Leading large, multi-functional facilities operations within a complex institutional environment (higher education, healthcare, municipal, or similar).
Oversight of custodial services, grounds/landscaping, waste management, fleet operations, lock and key control, elevator compliance, and moving/event support services.
Managing centralized work order intake and dispatch operations (CMMS-driven environments).
Contract development, vendor performance management, and service-level agreement (SLA) oversight.
Deferred maintenance coordination and asset lifecycle planning.
Developing and implementing operational policies, procedures, and service standards.
Budget planning, financial forecasting, and cost-control strategies for multi-unit operations.
Emergency response coordination and 24/7 operational coverage models.
Leading organizational change, restructuring, or service optimization initiatives.
Supervising and developing managers and frontline operational teams in union and/or non-union environments.
Oversight and administration of facilities management software systems, reporting dashboards, and performance analytics.
Demonstrated knowledge of: Facilities management best practices and industry standards (APPA or comparable frameworks).
Regulatory compliance related to elevators, life safety systems, environmental health, and workplace safety.
Preventive maintenance principles and work order lifecycle management.
Key control systems and physical security coordination.
Grounds management, sustainable landscaping practices, and waste diversion programs.
Fleet operations, asset tracking, and vehicle lifecycle management.
Service delivery metrics, KPI development, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Risk management, business continuity planning, and emergency operations coordination.
Procurement processes, contract compliance, and vendor accountability frameworks.
Organizational governance, policy development, and documentation control.
Change management principles and performance management systems.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with university and Facilities Management objectives.
Provide leadership and direction to directors, managers, supervisors, and operational teams.
Establish performance standards, KPIs, and service-level expectations.
Drive a culture of accountability, safety, customer service, and operational excellence.
Operational Oversight Oversee 24/7 dispatch and after-hours emergency response systems.
Monitor work order management processes and optimize service workflows.
Ensure efficient and responsive service delivery across custodial, landscape, waste, fleet, lock shop, classroom services, elevators, and event support.
Ensure regulatory compliance in elevator inspections, key control, fleet operations, and environmental standards.
Contract & Vendor Management Lead FM contract coordination, performance evaluation, and compliance monitoring.
Develop scopes of work, KPIs, and evaluation frameworks for outsourced services.
Partner with procurement and finance to ensure contract adherence and fiscal stewardship.
Administrative Governance & Policy Oversee departmental policy and protocol development, documentation, and archival management.
Ensure alignment with university policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Maintain operational continuity plans and service escalation protocols.
Deferred Maintenance & Asset Coordination Coordinate DM prioritization with capital planning and facilities leadership.
Ensure maintenance backlog reporting and mitigation strategies are implemented.
Support lifecycle planning for elevators, fleet, and infrastructure assets.
CMMS and Technology Oversight Provide executive oversight for Facilities Management operational software systems.
Ensure accurate reporting, data integrity, and system optimization.
Leverage analytics to drive performance improvements and informed decision-making.
Financial Stewardship Develop and manage operating budgets for assigned units.
Monitor expenditures, forecasting, and cost recovery where applicable.
Identify operational efficiencies and cost containment strategies.
Customer & Campus Engagement Serve as a key liaison to academic and administrative stakeholders.
Ensure high service satisfaction across campus partners.
Lead service recovery efforts for complex or escalated issues.
