For more information, visit www.gf.com. Summary of Role: We are seeking a strategic and technical leader to fill the role of Senior Director of EDA (Electronic Design Automation) IT. This executive will report directly to the CIO and be responsible for driving the global IT infrastructure strategy and execution supporting our semiconductor design engineering and tape-out teams. This critical role involves managing a hybrid compute environment spanning on premises data centers, colocation facilities, and public cloud platforms to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability for our complex EDA workloads.

Requirements

  • Experience : Minimum of 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role directly managing EDA or HPC environments within the semiconductor industry. Experience managing software development teams highly desired.
  • Technical Expertise : Deep technical knowledge of EDA tools, high-performance computing (HPC) systems, complex file systems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, NFS), and high-speed networking. Experience supporting PDK development and design-to-manufacturing workflows is highly desirable.
  • Cloud Proficiency : Proven experience integrating and managing workloads in public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for compute-intensive applications.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong executive presence with exceptional communication and negotiation skills. Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear business implications for C-suite audiences.
  • Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in semiconductor design is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership : Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year EDA IT strategy aligned with the company’s product development roadmap and business objectives.
  • Global Infrastructure Management : Oversee the design, deployment, and operation of high-performance compute (HPC) farms across global data centers (on-prem, colocation, and cloud environments), optimizing for performance, cost, and efficiency.
  • Engineering Partnership & Integration : Act as the primary IT liaison to Design Engineering leadership. Partner closely with design teams developing Process Design Kits (PDKs), ensuring their automation and regression needs are met. Embed IT support within the end-to-end Design-to-Manufacturing flow for all customers and fab operations.
  • Customer Engineering & Data Availability : Work closely with the Customer Engineering and Support organizations to ensure customer design data, project status, and reporting are easily and securely available to end-users via robust IT platforms and integrations.
  • Software Development & Process Ownership : Manage an embedded software development team focused on optimizing and automating various design flows and the overall design-to manufacturing business processes. Drive efficiency through custom software solutions.
  • AI Integration & Automation: Drive the strategy for leveraging AI and machine learning techniques within the EDA environment to accelerate design verification cycles, optimize PDK development, and improve overall engineering efficiency and throughput.
  • End-User Environment Management : Define, deploy, and maintain standardized, high-performance desktop and remote access computing environments (physical and virtual) for all design engineers, ensuring optimal configuration for specific EDA application requirements and user productivity.
  • Compliance & Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner effectively with global Operations and Security teams to ensure all EDA systems and processes strictly adhere to government regulations,industry compliance standards, and internal operational protocols.
  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture : Drive the adoption and management of cloud-based EDA solutions, establishing robust hybrid architectures that seamlessly integrate with existing on-premises infrastructure.
  • Operational Excellence : Ensure 24/7 availability and peak performance of critical EDA infrastructure and services. Implement best practices for monitoring, incident response, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
  • Vendor Management & Procurement : Manage strategic relationships with key EDA software vendors (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens EDA) and hardware providers, negotiating licenses and ensuring optimal utilization and compliance.
  • Team Leadership : Lead and mentor a global team of highly skilled EDA IT specialists, system administrators, and software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Budget & Finance : Manage multi-million dollar capital and operational budgets (CapEx/OpEx),optimizing spend and demonstrating clear ROI on infrastructure investments.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
