Summary: The Senior Director, Development will plan and implement a development and fundraising program, including cultivating relationships with donors, partners, and supporters to ensure the short and long-term sustainability of the organization.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing and implementing a successful and comprehensive development and fundraising program, including mapping an annual development plan and timeline to achieve goals.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of senior development experience, including cultivating new major individual gifts and grants, or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing new major individual gifts and grants of six figures and above.
  • Demonstrated success in building a stewardship program strengthening relationships and cultivating recurring donors.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in proactively building relationships with key stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundraising experience in documentary film, journalism and/or media industry, or related field.
  • Experience with one or more donor databases/software, including Salesforce.
  • Experience in building, mentoring and coaching a team of specialists
  • Experience with internet research, Google Workspace, and Asana.

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute a comprehensive fundraising program that includes major gifts, foundations, corporate philanthropy, and other individual donors with the goal of stewarding and raising $14-16 million annually.
  • Identify, research, cultivate, engage, solicit and steward existing and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Engage senior leadership in building effective messages for new and broader donor audiences.
  • Establish fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one-year and longer-term goals.
  • Set annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals.
  • Set and communicate direction to the ITVS board and staff for all development initiatives, building buy-in from key stakeholders as needed.
  • Lead the creation of compelling fundraising materials and communications to cultivate donors and inspire support.
  • Plan fundraising events that effectively communicate the mission, purpose, history, values, and award-winning work of the organization.
  • Oversee the fundraising process and maintenance of up-to-date records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Lead creation and maintenance of a fundraising database using development software.
  • Coordinate all development activities with staff and track progress against annual development work plan and timeline.
  • Grow the development team and supervise and mentor development staff.
  • Manage and strengthen development processes and systems, including recordkeeping, gift acknowledgments, renewals, newsletters, etc.
  • Lead efforts to identify and secure new donors at all levels.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with current donors to increase gift size, frequency and retention through donor events, communication, and other strategies..
  • Partner with the CEO, the INDEPENDENT LENS Executive Producer, and the ITVS board in their efforts to build and strengthen donor and prospect relationships and solicit gifts.
  • Explore and oversee other individual giving strategies, including public appeal campaigns that attract mid-level donors, small donors, and annual giving.
  • Lead efforts to identify and secure new foundation support, including outreach and presentations to prospective funders.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with current foundation funders.
  • Oversee ITVS' grant and report writing and coordinate the process with relevant staff.
  • Coach, support, and encourage the board’s development efforts.
  • Prepare development reports and plans in advance of full board and board committee meetings.
  • Foster and cultivate a culture of care and a high commitment to quality informed by ITVS values.
  • Contribute to culture by proactively participating in organization programs and staff events.
  • Seek and integrate constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and staff; build relationships through effective and compassionate communication.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
