About The Position

Grid United has numerous large scale transmission projects underway and is currently identifying and studying additional prospective projects across North America. With patient capital backing and led by experienced energy veterans, Grid United is in a fast-growth stage, boasting a purpose-built team of motivated and entrepreneurial talent. We are particularly focused on effective stakeholder engagement and positive involvement with the communities in the areas where we are working. Grid United is seeking a Senior Director of Commercial Analytics to lead the development and execution of analytical strategies that demonstrate the value of our transmission projects across their lifecycle—from prospecting to commercialization. The Senior Director of Commercial Analytics will manage a team of 4 to 6 managers and associates. He/she will work cross-functionally with commercial, development, regulatory, engineering, legal, and financial teams. The Senior Director of Commercial Analytics will be a thought partner and close collaborator with the Commercial team, and will report to the Chief Commercial Officer, Jack Farley. Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in wholesale electricity markets in a market facing, integrated system planning, or consulting role, or similar.
  • Experience managing and developing an analytics team.
  • Deep expertise in electricity markets and system planning with specific experience in PacNW, ERCOT, SPP, and MISO.
  • Excellent quantitative skills including analyzing large datasets.
  • Strong writing skills, including both technical and persuasive writing.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of communicating complex topics to an array of audiences.
  • Experience managing external production cost modeling (AURORA, PROMOD, PSO, etc) or loss of load expectation modeling.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task efficiently with constant regard for accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to read and digest large amounts of information rapidly.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and uncertainty, and project changes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, nonhierarchical organization.
  • Proactive and open to embracing new challenges.
  • Positive, professional, and energetic team-oriented attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the commercial analytics team to execute a strategy that aligns with the company’s business goals and long-term vision.
  • Advance our analytical methodologies and tools to deliver convincing insights to customers and other stakeholders and to assist in identifying new development opportunities that are aligned with Grid United’s commercial thesis.
  • Represent Grid United in external forums, including customer engagements, regulatory proceedings, industry working groups, and ISO/RTO forums.
  • Prepare presentations that communicate complex concepts effectively to audiences ranging from mid-level staff to C-suite.
  • Oversee internal and consultant-led analyses to quantify the economic, reliability, resiliency, and environmental benefits of Grid United’s projects.
  • Guide the development of forward-looking production cost modeling, loss of load expectation studies, and other advanced analytics to support project justification.
  • Support efforts to shape market design and regulatory frameworks that recognize and reward the value of interregional transmission.
  • Collaborate with transmission strategy, regulatory affairs, commercial, and external partners to advocate for policy changes that enable project success.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing analytics team, fostering deep expertise in relevant electricity markets, state regulatory environments/frameworks, and project-specific customer value drivers.
  • Work cohesively and productively across project teams.
  • Drive innovation in analytical approaches, tools, methodologies, and data integration.
