About The Position

The Senior Direct Support Professional (Sr. DSP) supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they explore, connect, and grow in their communities. This includes providing hands-on support at job sites, volunteer locations, and social outings—while promoting independence, confidence, and meaningful relationships. Along with direct support, this Sr. DSP also coordinates schedules with community partners. They build and maintain relationships with these partners and handle the planning of visit dates and times to ensure smooth experiences for everyone involved. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Ability to complete required documents, i.e., ID Notes, Incident Reports, etc.
  • Computer literate.
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Ability to accept and apply performance-based feedback.
  • Ability to assess emergencies and act in an appropriate and therapeutic manner.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPI certification within 30 days of employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment
  • At least six months work experience at Opportunity Village.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years verifiable work experience in related field, i.e., health care, adult day care, mental health or special education.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Assist with scheduling, assigning, and the support of Direct Support Professionals.
  • Provides additional oversight and mentorship of the Direct Support Professionals.
  • Assist the Lead Direct Support Professional in conducting daily team huddles to solicit feedback, answer questions, and communicate relevant information to Direct Support Professionals.
  • Provide leadership team members with details and observations regarding teammate performance.
  • Required to read service and habilitation plans for all individuals served in the Senior Direct Support Professional’s assigned group; to assure each individual is receiving proper care according to their plan(s).
  • Facilitate and participate in daily scheduled activities.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers as needed.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed, i.e., ID notes, communication logs, schedules, incident reports and payroll.
  • Responsible for maintaining records, i.e., monthly calendar, daily activities, habilitation plans, scheduling, community outings, and reporting volunteer hours.
  • Assist the Lead Direct Support Professional in maintaining compliance of ratios for individuals served to team members.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Anticipate safety needs for all individuals and team members and report any and all issues or concerns to department manager(s) as soon as possible.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations and requirements, as well as company policies and procedures, i.e., Desert Regional Center (DRC), Adult Protective Services, etc.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the Person Centered Plan (PCP).
  • Attend the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) meetings as requested.
  • Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  • May be assigned other duties as needed.
