About The Position

The Senior Design Specialist I is a highly experienced design professional responsible for leading advanced CAD/BIM modeling, multi-disciplinary coordination, and quality assurance for complex architectural and engineering projects. Positioned at Level 5 in the Design Technician career path, this role bridges technical expertise and leadership by setting CAD/BIM standards, guiding project teams, and mentoring junior designers. The Senior Design Specialist I plays a critical role in ensuring project deliverables meet the highest standards of technical precision, regulatory compliance, and design intent.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in CAD, BIM, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in CAD/BIM design, with significant multi-disciplinary project exposure.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD and BIM software platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and related tools).
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, technical drawing standards, and documentation processes.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Awareness of emerging digital design technologies and trends in BIM-enabled project delivery.
  • Expert proficiency in digital modeling and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Leadership and mentorship skills for developing team capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for resolving design and software challenges.
  • Effective communication skills for engaging clients, project stakeholders, and team members.
  • Organizational skills for managing multiple concurrent projects and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation, management, and coordination of advanced 2D and 3D CAD/BIM models for large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Direct and oversee project-wide design coordination, integrating architectural, structural, MEP, and specialty systems into cohesive models.
  • Establish and enforce CAD/BIM standards, workflows, and best practices across multiple projects and teams.
  • Perform advanced quality control reviews on design documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level designers, providing technical expertise, problem-solving support, and professional development guidance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to resolve complex design challenges and implement innovative solutions.
  • Deliver high-quality visualizations, presentations, and 3D renderings for client and stakeholder engagement.
  • Research, test, and implement emerging CAD/BIM technologies and workflows that enhance team efficiency and project outcomes.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
