Are you interested in developing and integrating hardware on the front-end of the business, often employing advanced materials, technology, and approaches in order to provide enabling technology to the customer? Hypersonic systems? Underwater launched systems? Air-launched systems? We have a team and employ engineers with a variety of technical backgrounds to effectively meet many different customer needs on time. The Sr. Design Engineer will conceptualize, design, integrate, and document mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure successful hardware performance. Manage drawing release utilizing tools such as On-Time Drawing Release Manager or DRM to ensure coordinated release supports procurement demand. Work with CM and CCB/ERB board to release TDP. This role may also include leading teams in the completion of above tasks. The primary work location will be on-site in Tucson AZ. Willingness to perform work in proprietary spaces may be required based on program assignment.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in mechanical design and/or development, preferably defense-related components or systems
  • Experience with of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, drawing practices and/or interpretation (ASME Y-14.5) for mechanical hardware
  • Experience with Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience using Creo Parametric and/or cPDM

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering disciplines
  • Understanding of military specifications and industry design standards
  • Experience in airframe development, electronics packaging, mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications
  • Understanding of and experience with the use of additive manufacturing for metallic structures and components
  • Understanding and experience of manufacturing techniques and assembly best practices
  • A passion for design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA)
  • Experience with advanced surfacing techniques for complex geometry
  • Knowledge and experience in top-down design methodology and skeleton design

Responsibilities

  • Work with multi-disciplinary engineers to propose, design, develop, integrate, and document within the mechanical design department.
  • Communicate with cross-disciplined, diverse engineering team members and suppliers to design, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements
  • Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible design authority
