About The Position

Performs applications database administration (Db2 on z/OS) services, including SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, and development support. Architects Cloud native applications database technologies -- Db2 z/OS, AWS, Aurora PostgreSQL, and Snowflake. Sets up and installs multisite Database and Replication support for large DB2 z/OS sysplex environments. Performs code deployment, performance and capacity analysis, and provides replication and database support throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Designs and implements complex databases and business critical designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing database administration of DB2 database environments that support trading platforms for the financial industry, using Replication technologies (Q-Replication, IIDR CDC, and AWS services).
  • Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing database administration of DB2 database environments that support trading platforms for the financial industry, using Replication technologies (Q-Replication, IIDR CDC, and AWS services).
  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") performing DB2 database administration across z/OS and Linux, using DB2 COBOL/NSP, CA-Insight, RC/Tools, Subsystem Analyzer, and DB2 utilities.
  • DE implementing replication technologies using IDR Q-Replication on z/OS platforms (Active-Active and Active-Passive), IIDR CDC for heterogeneous targets (Cloud and On-Prem), and AWS services.
  • DE performing performance tuning of DB2 applications using Omegamon, CA Detector, SMF, Explain path analysis, and zIIP processing.
  • DE automating operational tasks aligned with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for business and technology operations, using Linux Shell Scripting, REXX, SQL, and Python.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule for production support, database maintenance, housekeeping, and installations.
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems, or collaborate with programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Automates recoverability for non-highly available databases.
  • Collaborates in defining complex database and data warehousing methodologies.
  • Ensures capacity management and performance tuning of assigned database.
  • Implements complex and/or business critical changes.
  • Identifies users and situations that may be hazardous to the system/network.
  • Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure compliance with security framework.
  • Identifies environment (operational or application) modifications to improve security.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots storage problems.
  • Assesses and communicates the impact of changes to existing systems.
  • Monitors and reports on the progress of change implementation efforts.
  • Assesses readiness of new systems for conversion, including routine procedures, system administration, recovery and restart scenarios, error procedures, distribution of software releases, distribution of data, and network management.
  • Develops methods for integrating different products to work properly together, customizes commercial databases to fit specific needs.
