About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Project Controls Division, seeks a Senior Data Scientist. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be advance project risk identification during design and construction. They will work on significant data science projects, such as risk identification modeling. They will analyze historical project data (structured and unstructured) to extract and share out insights related to cost and schedule performance. The selected candidate will source, clean and structure data in support of analysis using statistics, machine learning and AI to uncover the relationships that drive project performance. They will work to understand business problems, design data models and tools to support analyses, use appropriate statistical and machine learning techniques for predictive or causal analytics, and develop visualizations based on project management needs. The selected candidate will demonstrate good judgment about the prioritization of features, adhere to best practices in model design and data transformation, have superior communication skills to both understand end-user needs, and will be able to tailor the justification for any recommendations they make based on their data-driven findings to meet the needs of their audience. They will leverage a combination of standard libraries for ML, AI and data transformation, as well as Power BI for data visualization, and standard office productivity tools as necessary. They may also be called upon to assist in the supervision of interns or review the work of junior staff on the team as necessary. Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  • An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
