About The Position

The U.S. construction permitting process is a black box. Over 500,000 forms and 20,000 processes, yet 95% of cities use the same building code. Every permitting delay costs businesses revenue, stalls expansion, and disrupts construction schedules. Founded in 2022 by builders, entrepreneurs, and industry experts, GreenLite eliminates permitting uncertainty for developers nationwide. We combine AI-powered technology with an in-house team of registered architects, engineers, and city planners to deliver the fastest, most predictable path to permit approval. Our expert-led compliance process ensures plans are code-ready before submission, reducing revisions, delays, and costs. GreenLite has raised $86M in venture funding from leading investors including Insight Partners, Energize Capital, Craft Ventures, LiveOak Ventures, Trust Ventures, and Chicago Ventures. National brands, including Walgreens, TD Bank, and Driven Brands, trust us to accelerate approvals, reduce risk, and unlock growth. Why this role matters We’re a Series A startup re‑imagining how architects and municipalities collaborate on construction drawings. Our mission -- to cut municipal review time from months to days -- hinges on data that is both trustworthy and instantly accessible. As a key hire in our AI engineering organization, you’ll operate with a founder mindset, help in defining our long‑term data strategy, and align multiple squads behind it. Our product roadmap includes computer‑vision and large‑language‑model (LLM) capabilities; but those future models will only be as good as the data pipelines that feed them. As a Data Engineer, you will design, build, and own the batch‑and‑stream pipelines, quality gates, and metadata systems that make trustworthy data instantly available for ML experimentation and eventual production deployment: directly influencing company OKRs.

Requirements

  • Have 4‑7 years building data platforms at high‑growth companies or startups.
  • Are fluent in Python, SQL and at least one modern orchestration framework. Bonus for having experience with Typescript and full stack development.
  • Have shipped cloud‑native data stacks (Terraform/IaC a plus) and understand cost/performance trade‑offs.
  • Familiarity with SOC2 Type 2 compliance and building compliant systems.
  • Thrive in “debate, decide, deliver” cultures—turning ambiguous product goals into concrete, maintainable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Architect & implement end‑to‑end ETL/ELT workflows on AWS using state of the art tooling for this.
  • Model the source‑of‑truth for drawings, annotations, reviewer feedback, and regulatory metadata; enforce data contracts through automated tests.
  • Instrument & monitor lineage, freshness, and cost observability; drive clear SLOs for pipeline reliability that unblock ML training runs.
  • Collaborate tightly with ML engineers and domain experts to prioritize new data sources, labeling strategies, and feature‑store requirements.
  • Mentor teammates on data‑engineering craft; contribute to interviewing and onboarding to raise the bar.
  • Continuously improve: identify systemic inefficiencies, automate away toil, and introduce tooling that accelerates model‑development velocity and monitors costs.
