About The Position

Hecla is transforming current ad-hoc Excel-based reporting to a unified Microsoft Fabric data platform serving four active mine sites. We need a Senior Data Architect to architect, implement, and own this greenfield analytics platform initially working alongside our current team of consultants, then assuming full platform ownership for long-term evolution. This is a rare opportunity to develop greenfield architecture based on modern tooling, with strong executive sponsorship, multi-year funding, and direct operational impact across mining operations. You'll move Hecla from reactive reporting to proactive visibility - enabling predictive analytics and operational optimization long term.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years implementing modern cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or Snowflake with at least one end-to-end implementation
  • Experience with progressive data refinement patterns (e.g., Medallion Architecture: BronzeSilverGold layers). Dimensional modeling experience (Kimball/Inmon) with practical application
  • Strong Power BI semantic modeling and DAX with enterprise datasets, not just reports
  • Hands-on development experiences with data pipelines, ETL/ELT patterns, and production operations
  • DevOps for analytics: Git, CI/CD, automated testing, environment management
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to executives and build trust with operations leaders

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Fabric hands-on experience or deep Azure data platform expertise (Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake)
  • Microsoft certifications (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate)
  • Mining, manufacturing, or process industry background
  • Experience with real-time data collection infrastructure or operational technology (OT) integration
  • Platform ownership experience beyond initial implementation (supporting and evolving production systems)

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design and implementation of Microsoft Fabric platform using the Medallion Architecture (Bronze-Silver-Gold)
  • Design dimensional models and Power BI semantic layers for operational analytics
  • Partner with company leadership to translate operational pain points into technical requirements
  • Establish enterprise KPI definitions enabling cross-site comparisons while respecting site-specific needs
  • Assume full platform ownership post-consulting engagementresponsible for operations, optimization, troubleshooting, and evolution of the analytics platform
  • Build internal analytics capabilities through active mentorship, recruiting assistance, and knowledge transfer during consulting engagement
  • Navigate multi-site data integration across heterogeneous systems
  • Collaborate with Analytics Steering Committee to prioritize use cases, manage roadmap, and communicate progress to executive stakeholders
  • Support data governance policies using Microsoft Purview to ensure compliance, security, and standardized KPI definitions across sites
  • Design strategies for integrating real-time operational data from OT systems and transactional on-premise systems into the Fabric platform
  • Ensure the platform is designed for scalability and performance to support predictive analytics and future AI-driven initiatives
