About The Position

VT-ARC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to support the design and implementation of a transformational network engineering program. This role is responsible for developing comprehensive cybersecurity strategies for advanced network designs and conducting rigorous security testing to validate secure, resilient performance upon implementation. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will ensure all network components comply with stringent security standards and will work closely with government and industry partners to provide technical oversight throughout network security design, implementation, and testing activities. This position reports to the programs Principal Architect within VT-ARCs Engineering Test and Evaluation Division (ETED). An active Top Secret/SCI clearance is required This position is contingent based upon contract award

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering roles.
  • Strong knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and encryption technologies.
  • Experience conducting vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as NIST, STIGs, and RMF.
  • Hands-on experience with security tools and platforms (SIEM, endpoint protection, etc.).
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, CEH, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working with Federal agencies on critical networks and communications services
  • Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance is required

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or field.
  • 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering roles.
  • Experience with secure network design and architecture.
  • Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure) and Zero Trust principles.
  • Ability to automate security testing and reporting using scripting languages.
  • Experience with network/cybersecurity simulation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cybersecurity approaches and strategies aligned with network architecture and design.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Architect and other technical leads to integrate security into all phases of network development.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and compliance audits on implemented network systems.
  • Ensure adherence to DoD cybersecurity standards, STIGs, and NIST frameworks.
  • Create and maintain security documentation, including risk assessments and mitigation plans.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve security issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance on emerging cybersecurity threats and best practices.
  • Work closely with the onsite government and contractor technical team to develop cybersecurity capabilities that support end-to-end network and end user communication requirements
