Job Description SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Drainage Technician Sr. Crew Leader operates various vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery within the Drainage Division of the Public Works Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates large, heavy industrial equipment and/or semi-trailer equipment, which requires a substantial degree of monitoring and/or coordination of the working attachments used in construction, earthmoving, and/or hauling heavy equipment and ground and waste materials and performs light to heavy physical labor. The Drainage Technician Sr. Crew Leader is expected to provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, training, and instruction to employees less experienced. Acts as the lead in the absence of a supervisor, ensuring that work is completed according to City standards. Distinguished from the Crew Leader position by providing more formal supervision and leadership. Typical work will be operating any and all City owned equipment including Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed. Performs safety inspections of vehicles and equipment. Maintains activity reports. Provides assistance to other drivers as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • three years’ experience in Public Works maintenance and repair operations, including two years of supervisory or lead work experience
  • Possession of a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
