To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com What you'll be doing As a Senior Credit Officer , you'll play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing credit risk for CIBC's Commercial, Corporate, and Industrial portfolios. You'll assess and advise on the creditworthiness of proposed transactions, making sure that all new loan opportunities meet the bank’s credit policies, guidelines, and risk objectives. You'll review and provide input on detailed credit packages to ensure due diligence is thorough and risk ratings are accurate. In this role, you'll work closely with the Senior Director, Credit Risk to communicate credit expectations and risk appetite, approve or decline credits within your established limits, and consult on larger exposures. You'll also mentor credit analysts and junior loan officers, participate in industry meetings, and contribute to strategic credit risk projects that help shape our approach to risk management. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

Requirements

  • You bring deep credit risk expertise. You have at least 10 years of experience in Commercial, Corporate, and Industrial Credit Risk within a US Commercial Bank.
  • You have a strong educational background. You hold a bachelor’s degree in business or finance; an advanced degree is an asset.
  • You’re an effective communicator. Your strong verbal and written communication skills help you interact confidently with all levels of staff and management.
  • You’re analytical and detail-oriented. Your excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills enable you to assess complex situations and present findings clearly.
  • You’re a team player and leader. You work well independently and collaboratively, and you’re committed to mentoring and supporting others.
  • You’re proficient with technology. You’re comfortable using the MS Office Suite to organize and present your work.

Responsibilities

  • Credit Assessment and Oversight – Assess and advise on the creditworthiness of Commercial, Corporate, and Industrial transactions, ensuring alignment with CIBC’s credit policies and risk appetite.
  • Due Diligence and Risk Rating – Review and provide input on credit packages, ensuring all due diligence is complete and risk ratings conform to the bank’s framework.
  • Portfolio Monitoring – Assist in monitoring portfolio asset quality, attend management meetings, and support the oversight of Watch and Criticized accounts.
  • Mentorship and Team Leadership – Mentor credit analysts and junior loan officers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Strategic Initiatives – Participate in industry meetings, conferences, and strategic credit risk projects to stay current on trends and regulatory changes.
  • Process Improvement – Recommend and implement changes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness within the credit risk function.

  • This role has an expected salary range of $195,000- $235,000 USD for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position (salary range varies based on the location which will be discussed at the time of the interview).
  • The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
