About The Position

The Senior Counsel will provide legal guidance and advice to one or more of Balchem's global business segments regarding all aspects of the business, including reviewing and negotiating various corporate, commercial, and procurement agreements. Additionally, the Senior Counsel is responsible to review various marketing claims and to assist in resolving commercial disputes. This role will require ability to work across different functions and business segments, exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, and effective communication at all levels and across all functions within the company. There is ample opportunity to be involved in various matters (including M&A and litigation) and grow and develop as a versatile and trusted legal counsel and business partner. This role will report to the Company's Deputy General Counsel. Compensation package is commensurate with experience and Balchem offers generous benefits which include medical, dental, vision, 401K with company match and a hybrid work model.

Requirements

  • Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Admitted to practice and member in good standing of any state bar.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. environment.
  • Strong contracting skills.
  • Able to diagnose and efficiently solve problems.
  • Eagerness and adaptability to learn new areas of the law.
  • Requires commute to our Montvale, NJ headquarters.
  • Hybrid work model (generally expected to be in the office at least three days a week).
  • Ability to multi-task, be adaptable, and manage various matters effectively, including learning new areas of law.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to provide sound, practical legal advice and solutions.
  • Ability to take initiative and lead various projects.
  • Highest level of integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates.
  • Operate typical office equipment such as computer.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required.
  • Some travel, both domestic and international, may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in advertising law is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as counsel for at least one of Balchem's three business segments and provide general legal support to commercial groups.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and agreements, including NDAs, commercial agreements, procurement, etc.
  • Collaborate with Science, Marketing, and Regulatory groups to review and provide legal guidance with respect to marketing claims, consistent with FDA and FTC requirements.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution as needed.
  • Conduct legal research and provide legal training, as appropriate.
