The Senior Cost Analyst is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and controlling costs related to company manufacturing operations. Which includes maintaining standard costs, preparing cost reports such as a gross profit report, analyzing variances, and a full understanding of inventory flow through an ERP system. They work with operations to improve efficiency, support new product costing and "make vs. buy" decisions, and assist with budgeting and forecasting. This role requires strong analytical skills and often involves collaborating cross-functionally to drive cost reduction and profitability improvements.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
  • 5-10 years of experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Standard Cost Management - Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead with in the ERP system.
  • Cost Analysis - Analyze cost variances by comparing actual costs to standard costs, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions. Using trend data to analyze costs across all product lines.
  • Reporting - Prepare detailed cost reports and financial analysis for management, highlighting trends and key performance indicators.
  • Inventory Control - Review & reconcile inventory transactions, monitor inventory reserves, and support cycle counting and physical inventory processes.
  • New Product & Project Support - Provide cost analysis for new product development, pricing impact, and "make vs. buy" evaluations. Estimate costs for new projects and prepare quotations.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting - Assist in the annual budgeting process and contribute to periodic forecasting and long-range planning. Planning of overhead rates.
  • Process Improvement - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve costing processes, data accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Auditing and Compliance - Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with policies and accounting standards.
