WIRED is seeking a Senior Correspondent for Investigations to join its newsroom in New York, NY or San Francisco. This role requires a reporter skilled in building and working with data sets and open source tools to uncover impactful stories in technology, cybersecurity, science, and politics. The ideal candidate will possess both traditional reporting skills and technological expertise, with a proven ability in visual and open source investigations or data journalism. Comfort with coding and developing custom tools for investigative purposes is essential. The primary goal is to identify and report differentiated stories from sources like data leaks, satellite imagery, or digital trails, utilizing both technological and conventional reporting methods. This dynamic position demands curiosity and creativity, with an expectation of producing at least four stories per month and one long-form feature or investigation annually. While primarily assigned to the security desk, the correspondent is encouraged to explore stories across all of WIRED’s coverage areas and collaborate extensively with other reporters and teams (audio, video, events, social media, global markets). The role reports to WIRED’s Director of Science, Politics, and Security and is part of a growing, global newsroom. This is an in-office position, requiring 4 days per week in either the New York or San Francisco office, and is a guild position.
