About The Position

Schwan’s Company is seeking a talented Senior Corporate Council – Labor & Employment to join our Legal team. In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders across the organization, provide counsel on a full range of labor and employment matters, manage litigation and agency claims, and proactively help the company mitigate risk. You will also support immigration needs in partnership with HR and outside counsel.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the Minnesota Bar (or ability to obtain MN admission within 6 months).
  • 7+ years of substantive employment law experience from a reputable law firm, in house legal department, or a combination of both handling employment & labor matters. Experience with a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws, with demonstrated experience providing clear, actionable guidance to business partners.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously, work independently, and deliver solutions that balance legal risk with business needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with demonstrated project management, organization, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience in other areas of law and the manufacturing industry is aplus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day counsel to HR and business teams on employment law matters, including hiring, investigations, accommodations, wage & hour, discrimination/harassment, performance management, discipline, and termination.
  • Manage and defend employment-related claims and litigation, including handling agency charges, directing outside counsel, and developing strategy for resolution.
  • Draft and review employment-related documents such as agreements, policies, separations, and compliance procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and company practices.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze complex issues, and deliver practical, business-oriented recommendations.
  • Lead compliance responsibilities including EEO reporting, government contractor requirements, training, and policy development.
  • Oversee immigration-related processes in partnership with outside counsel and internal HR partners.

Benefits

  • The base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $226,000 annually, with eligibility for a 25% annual incentive bonus based on organizational performance.
