About The Position

Under the leadership of the Dean of Students Office- West Campus, the Advocacy Coordinator Senior provides direct engagement with students, faculty, staff, families, and other community members to develop a supportive action plan for students who are experiencing circumstances that are or may interfere with academic success. The Advocacy Coordinator Senior manages a caseload of students in collaboration with student services and academic partners, with the end goal of creating a success plan by connecting students with appropriate services and resources. This position reports directly to the Director for Student Advocacy and Assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND five (5) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of current or in pursuit of a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years’ experience in higher education or a closely related setting with demonstrated knowledge of crisis response, student conduct, student affairs administration, and case management support teams.
  • Experience working with Title IX and VAWA requirements.
  • Experience working with victims impacted by sexual, domestic, and/or interpersonal violence and/or harassment.
  • Experience assisting others in navigating complex systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational and medical privacy guidelines.
  • Experience in communicating difficult/sensitive information with relevant parties.
  • Experience in using organizational skills.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience in using decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SAA liaison for academic and university partners at the West Valley campus.
  • Manage a caseload supporting ASU students, both immersion and online.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Coordinate action plans with students, families, staff, faculty, and other necessary partners to aid with service referrals.
  • Assist in providing training to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Work independently within a case management support team.
  • Problem solves complex situations; creates and implements action plans to support student needs.
  • Provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff regarding student-related issues.
  • Represent the Dean of Students Office in university committees, working groups, and task forces.
  • Support retention efforts.
  • Manage highly sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Assist with and attend campus initiatives, signature events, and programs.
  • Support the overall success of Educational Outreach and Student Services by performing other duties as assigned and serving on university committees and workgroups.
