About The Position

What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Today, we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates, state organizations and a national office that work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness, both the individuals and the people in their lives. We work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their families. In addition to being advocates, we educate, we listen, and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns, the range of programs we provide, and our strong public policy. NAMI is seeking a Senior Coordinator, Affiliate Development. The Senior Coordinator, Affiliate Development position is housed within the Field Capacity Building (FCB) team in the Alliance Relations (AR) department at NAMI. The FCB team provides support and technical assistance to NAMI's vast and diverse grassroots network, which includes over 600 NAMI Affiliates (NAs) and NAMI State Organizations (NSOs) across the U.S. The Senior Coordinator, Affiliate Development will provide technical and administrative support to the Director, Affiliate Development, who is responsible for managing the development and implementation of strategies, learning opportunities, resources, and tools that support and promote the ability of NAs and NSOs to operate healthy and sustainable organizations. The Senior Coordinator position requires an individual who is highly organized, skilled, able to work independently; interested in nonprofit management or organizational development, detail-oriented and dependable; has strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills; and can provide excellent customer service. This individual may also take on other duties regularly associated with office management, including e-filing, drafting memos, reports, and presentations; project management; and performing other administrative duties. This position is based in NAMI's Arlington, VA office. It is a hybrid position with 2 -3 days spent in our Arlington, VA office per week.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years' experience in related field/role
  • Excellent organizational skills and highly skilled in prioritizing projects with close attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work well with customers and as a contributing member of a team
  • Comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced, and deadline-based environment
  • Moderate to expert ability to use Office 365 Suite - Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Moderate level of experience using project management and productivity platforms including Salesforce, Slack, SmartSheet, Asana, Zoom, and others
  • Highly organized and able to create understandable and easy-to-follow systems
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and duties simultaneously
  • Independently motivated with the ability to take on tasks and duties without immediate direction
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems independently
  • Must pass background check

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and administrative support to the Director, Affiliate Development, as well as NSOs and NAs.
  • Work with the Director, Affiliate Development to maintain project management systems for assisting with day-to-day operations in Asana, SharePoint, Dropbox, and the Community of Practice.
  • Support the Director, Affiliate Development in the development and implementation of the Affiliate Development strategy.
  • Provide technical support to NSOs and NAs on the Affiliate Operations Handbook (Handbook), which is the main resource for Affiliate Development, as well as other related tools and resources.
  • Provide quarterly review of all internal and external resources that are linked in the Handbook.
  • Schedule meetings with Handbook contributors for the next edition, and organize and store updated content in SharePoint and/or Dropbox.
  • Assist in the planning and/or development of technical assistance, training tools and resources, new initiatives, events, among others, for NAs and NSOs.
  • Create survey tools, organize survey data, and develop reports.
  • Prepare memos, graphics, reports, presentations and other collateral materials for various internal and external stakeholders, including NAMI executive leadership, NAMI board members, etc.
  • Maintain Affiliate Development content on NAMI's public facing website and/or internal NAMInet.
  • Coordinate and provide administrative support for meetings for the Director, Affiliate Development.
  • Review, manage, and organize emails pertaining to Affiliate Development and ensure they are directed to the appropriate NAMI staff person.
  • As needed, organize work group and taskforce meetings, take minutes, and store the information in a centralized location
  • Provide support and technical assistance to the NSOs' Affiliate point of contacts group in the NAMI's Community of Practice platform
  • Assist the FCB team and/or the AR department in the planning and execution of field-focused activities including, but not limited to, NAMI's annual convention, NAMI Alliance Day, Executive Directors Leadership Exchange, among others
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the AR department's Operations Plan in support of NAMI's five-year strategic plan.
  • Coordinate and support meetings with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as e-filing, taking meeting minutes, and responding to emails.
  • Provide strong customer service to NSOs and NAs.
  • Occasional travel
