About The Position

The Senior Cook is responsible for the preparation and coordination of all center meals within established budget allowances, in accordance with preplanned menus and in compliance with government and management directives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience required
  • Valid food handler's permit if required by the state of employment or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Provide alternate shift supervision of cafeteria services including cooks, senior cafeteria attendants, cafeteria attendants, substitutes, and student workers; prepare quantity of food required according to the menu and the number of students; coordinate amounts with cooks, senior cafeteria attendants, cafeteria attendants and student workers
  • Assist in instructing cooks, senior cafeteria attendants, cafeteria attendants, substitutes, and student workers in the safe hygienic method of preparing appetizing, eye appealing meals
  • Ensure minimum waste through efficient storage, inventory and food utilization
  • Assign specific duties to staff and monitor and report work performance using daily schedule determined by manager, food services
  • Coordinate the activities of the cooks, senior cafeteria attendants, cafeteria attendants, substitutes, and student workers in the preparation, efficient and timely arrangement, servicing and clean-up of meals
  • Recommend replenishment of stockroom commodities
  • Direct and assist in preparing food for special center functions, visitors and off-center assignments
  • Assist in supervising work support and culinary arts students assigned to the cafeteria
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly workable condition; ensure work area and all other areas of the cafeteria are safe, clean and sanitary at all times
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
