About The Position

Intec Automation Inc. is an established (25+ years of business), small automation company based in Rochester, NH that specializes in the design and build of custom automation equipment. To support our continued growth, we are looking for an energetic individual to serve as a Principal Controls Engineer. The individual we are seeking must enjoy problem solving, and rarely building the same machine twice. The company needs a hands-on, assertive individual that is self-motivated, pursuant of personnel development and growth, who is willing to share knowledge and enhance the capabilities of co-workers and the company alike. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Principal Controls Engineer serves as the technical authority and subject matter expert for all aspects of controls engineering within Intec Automation. This role focuses on delivering advanced technical solutions, mentoring engineering teams, and driving innovation in control systems design and implementation. The Principal Controls Engineer will work as a direct contributor on complex projects while influencing technical strategy and standards across the organization.

Requirements

  • Industry-recognized expertise in controls engineering and automation.
  • Advanced proficiency in PLC platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens) and HMI development.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networking protocols and system integration.
  • Strategic technical leadership and innovation capabilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and ability to influence technical decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • BSEE/BSEET with 12+ years of experience in controls engineering, or ASEE/ASEET with 17+ years of experience.
  • Proven track record of successful large-scale automation projects.
  • Industry recognition and leadership in controls engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for controls engineering and automation systems.
  • Design and develop advanced control system architectures for custom automation equipment.
  • Provide expert-level PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial networking solutions.
  • Lead technology selection, standardization, and implementation of best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of controls with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues during design, build, and commissioning phases.
  • Represent the company in technical forums and maintain industry leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to engineering process optimization.
