About The Position

Drodex is seeking a Senior Consultant – Pediatric Emergency Care to support the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). ASPR is the nation’s public health preparedness and emergency response agency. Established under the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act following Hurricane Katrina, ASPR leads national efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the adverse health impacts of public health emergencies and disasters.The ASPR Center for Response (CFR) serves as the operational hub for HHS during public health emergencies, coordinating response activities across the federal government and with state, local, tribal, and territorial partners. CFR is responsible for coordinating and executing HHS’s response during emergencies, including clinical surge support, incident management, operational planning, and leadership decision support. The Senior Consultant will serve as a scientific and technical subject matter expert in pediatric emergency and critical care, with a focus on pediatric ICU surge planning, crisis standards of care, and infectious disease response. This role will provide senior leadership consultation, interagency coordination, and technical guidance to support national preparedness and response efforts. Location: Washington, DC

Requirements

  • PhD; 4-6 years experience (ideally in biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical investigation OR doctoral training in medicine and graduate training in epidemiology or biostatistics)
  • Working professional knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Visio.
  • Professional working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat DC and Reader preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 (Public Trust) security clearance.

  • Conduct travel with the leadership and/or other program staff to provide scientific and technical consultation, as required.
  • Leads and coordinates particularly complex scientific/technical components of large projects or series of smaller projects with responsibility for the application of advanced bio statistical methods and techniques.
  • Serve as a technical expert in clinical investigation methodology, multicenter studies and biostatistical methods.
  • Leads in the preparation of analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, and tables/figures/listings.
  • Advises data management staff on database design, validation checks and critical data. Leads in writing statistical sections of integrated reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical insight and guidance on pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) surge due disasters and infectious diseases.
  • Facilitate supportive liaison engagement between HHS/ASPR and national organizations focused on pediatric issues, including but not limited to the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), Pediatric Centers of Excellence, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Office for the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), National Children’s Hospital Association, Pediatric Hospitals, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), etc.
  • Provide scientific and technical consultation on the development of strategies around outreach and senior leader engagement for pediatric activities related to:
  • Assisting with design and implementation of just in time resources for hospitals.
  • Advocating for appropriate resources to help with pediatric issues and ICU capacity.
  • Serving as a scientific and technical consultant resource to help hospital systems navigate the federal-private partnerships.
  • Serve as subject matter expert as crisis standards (CSC), surge standards and other critical care guidance are developed/implemented by HHS/ASPR and engage in dissemination strategies in conjunction w HHS/ASPR related to:
  • Assist with design and implementation of CSC in conjunction with health systems and appropriate federal officials.
  • Offer high level guidance and support around surge and CSC issues.
  • Support other scientific and technical activities relevant to incident preparedness and response, as directed.
