About The Position

The Senior Construction Inspector is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced-level inspections on construction projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, codes, and safety standards. This role provides leadership in the field, supports junior inspectors, and serves as a key liaison between contractors, engineers, and project management staff. Inspectors identify and document nonconforming work and escalate to the Project Manager/authorized CES team members for disposition per the contract documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in construction inspection, with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with public agency standards (e.g., DOT, municipal, or federal).
  • Proficiency in inspection and reporting software (e.g., Procore, e-Builder, SiteManager).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET, ACI, ICC, CTQP, or equivalent certifications.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • Experience with transportation, infrastructure, or public works projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily field inspections of construction activities including civil, structural, roadway, utility, and architectural work as applicable to the project.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Document construction progress through daily reports, photographs, and inspection logs including location/area, activities observed, tests witnessed/results (as applicable), safety observations, and open items/status
  • Identify and document nonconforming work; notify the Project Manager/authorized team members for disposition; maintain a deficiency/nonconformance log, track corrective actions to completion, and verify rework prior to closure.
  • Assist in resolving field issues.
  • Review and verify contractor quantities for payment applications.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project managers to ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Communicate requirements in terms of the contract documents, codes, and approved submittals; does not direct contractor means and methods
  • Observe and monitor safety practices and environmental compliance on the job site and promptly report/escalate concerns to the appropriate parties
  • Assist in reviewing submittals, RFIs, and change orders as needed.
  • Support project closeout activities including punch list development and final inspections.
  • Mentor and guide junior inspectors and field staff.
