Description Position Purpose: Provides high level technical support for computer systems within data center operations and identifies patterns in technical problems. Ensures tape data operations are properly executed. Provides training to less experienced staff. Identifies and resolves computer systems problems. Location: This is a full‑time and onsite position with Companion Data Services, a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, located in Columbia, SC. What You’ll Do: Operates and monitors computer system and related equipment, ensuring all batch cycles are completed by deadline. Reads production schedules, job request forms and job documentation to determine what jobs to run, what procedures to follow and what input data to obtain. Ensures data operations and processes are operating properly and completed in a timely and accurate manner, to include monitoring, maintenance, and backup tape rotation. Provides assistance to various IT groups regarding tape desk procedures and vault rotation procedures. Identifies and resolves computer system problems. Tracks related incidents, problems, service requests and standard changes per established procedures and IT service management. Ensures all system and equipment problems are properly logged. Communicates status of operations to allow for immediate response to service interruptions. Provides training to less experienced staff. Assists in recommending schedules for staff and equipment to obtain maximum usage. Provides input on updating Operations procedures, schedules, and technical documentation. Ensures procedures are followed when compensating for unscheduled maintenance requirements. Escalates systems issues to IT technical staff and management. Perform duties of the Lead Computer Operator in that person’s absence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years' experience in the operation and support of a variety of computer systems.
  • Maintain tape libraries
  • Monitor computing platforms
  • Notify customers of problems
  • Operate console systems
  • Troubleshoot computing platforms

Nice To Haves

  • Mainframe experience including System Monitoring, IPL, and understanding of Errors and Abends.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • ServiceNow Experience.
