The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This is a Special Appointment position that serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. This position involves scheduling and conducting mandated agency audits of training academies, officer training records, and selection standards for the hiring and certification of law enforcement and correctional personnel to ensure compliance with the Public Safety Article, Correctional Services Article, Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and Commission-mandated requirements. This position is also responsible for preparation and submission of findings from completed audits, including recommendations for corrections, additions, revisions, etc., to ensure current compliance and future compliance of all agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in administrative or professional work.
  • Additional experience in compliance auditing or regulatory professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of professional experience scheduling and conducting audits to include reviewing for compliance with laws, regulations, management policies, and preparing detailed reports on audit findings.
  • Two years experience working with an electronic management system that tracks training compliance and/or certification requirements.
  • Two years experience working with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel or Access.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and conduct on-site and virtual compliance audits of law enforcement and correctional agencies for selection standards, training records and academies
  • Prepare and complete audit reports
  • Prepare and submit compliance notification results
  • Respond to questions, concerns and inquiries relating to mandated requirements, and audit reviews
  • Prepare protocols and procedures regarding audits and agency compliance
  • Provide compliance training to academy directors/coordinators and client agency staff
