About The Position

The Social Media Content Specialist (Senior Communications Specialist I) leads the strategy, creation, and management of paid and organic social media for the College of Arts & Sciences, while supporting departmental channels as needed. This role ensures a consistent and compelling brand voice across platforms, effectively showcasing the college’s initiatives, research, and culture. The specialist develops and executes multi‑channel campaigns, monitors and interprets performance analytics, and fosters collaboration across teams to align social media efforts with broader organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years of related experience to include at least one year in a leadership and/or supervisory role involving management of complex projects and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, and at least one year in social media account management.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organized, with the ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Possess a leadership and initiative-taking mindset.
  • Ability and willingness to approach challenges positively while maintaining a balanced, analytical mindset to evaluate situations effectively.
  • Leverage emotional intelligence to understand and navigate interpersonal dynamics and emotions, ensuring thoughtful and empathetic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages comprehensive social media strategies for primary and secondary accounts, collaborating with departments to align content and ensure cohesive, impactful messaging.
  • Creates and implements multi‑channel campaigns that support strategic goals for the College of Arts & Sciences, integrating insights from past performance analytics (paid and organic).
  • Produces social media content for Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn in accordance with brand standards, including capturing event photos, conducting interviews, and assisting with basic graphic design needs.
  • Provides timely responses to social media inquiries and directs audiences to appropriate resources, practicing active social listening to gauge brand sentiment and escalate insights when needed.
  • Oversees the collection, analysis, and reporting of channel and campaign performance data using tools such as Sprout, GA4, and Looker Studio, leveraging findings to inform data‑driven decisions.
  • Monitors higher‑education social media trends and delivers periodic training sessions to stakeholders across the college to strengthen digital communication practices.
  • Provides managerial support and guidance to social media student assistant team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
