L.L.Bean’s Internal Communications team in Freeport, Maine is seeking a Senior Communications Advisor who will support executives in expressing a clear, compelling and consistent voice in their communications. In this role, you’ll plan, create and execute communications strategies for internal and external audiences. This position requires a collaborative approach and comfort working across multiple platforms and topics – including crisis scenarios – to ensure effective, engaging and inclusive communications. This role requires 3 days per week onsite. The primary purpose of this position is to support L.L.Bean’s most senior executives and governance leaders in expressing a clear compelling and consistent voice as they deliver all messages. This includes supporting the strategy, development and delivery of formal and informal presentations and talking points, written announcements, speeches and video messages shared or delivered to L.L.Bean Stakeholders both inside and outside the organization. Builds communications plans, programs and solutions that drive L.L.Bean’s business strategy and align with the company’s Purpose and values.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years experience in a communications role, preferably focused on Executive and/or Board messaging
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong technical knowledge of video production
  • Deep understanding of L.L.Bean’s business, organization, history and guiding principles
  • Integrator who recognizes interdependencies and collaborates across HR and the company to achieve results
  • Able to act as a consultant to Executives, Owners and Board members
  • Understands and lives the L.L.Bean brand
  • Able to integrate behavior, culture, and brand with communication objectives
  • Strong, results-focused leader whose behaviors align with L.L.Bean's values

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a strategy annual editorial planning calendar of all communication activities of L.L.Bean’s senior executives and governance leaders.
  • Plans and develops all “mass” messaging from senior executives and governance leaders that is intended for stakeholder delivery. This includes, but is not limited to: company announcements, internal and external presentation materials, meeting talking points, Board materials, and speeches and remarks for a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder audiences.
  • Ability to deliver and consult on executive-level communications across a wide range of topics related to L.L.Bean’s business, organization, history and guiding principles as well as the retail industry – including in crisis scenarios.
  • Actively plans, manages, and executes the Town Hall series and other company-wide meetings, including planning and creating content, all coordination and identifying necessary communications and video resources to produce each event
  • Keep abreast of advances in communication technologies, including all relevant tools, applications, and platforms, digital/mobile, and video and video conferencing capabilities to improve L.L.Bean’s communication practices. Manages content and platforms as needed.
  • Actively partners with External Communications to ensure all executive messaging is appropriate and aligned with external messaging goals and objectives.
  • In concert with the Manager of Corporate Communications, provides leadership and editorial direction to the Corporate Communications function, to ensure alignment, effective communication and workflow among sub-functions, and ongoing development of the full team.
  • Develops other communications team members in executive- and governance- related communications practices to share knowledge and ensure sufficient and effective succession planning.
  • Participates in or lead other important communications projects or activities with company-wide or family governance impact.
