The Senior Collateral Analyst will support daily collateral operations and play an active role in building Talcott’s collateral target operating model (TOM) as the function moves in-house. This is not a traditional, highly structured role. This role requires someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, resourceful, and motivated to help create processes from the ground up. In addition to operational responsibilities, the role will involve project management activities, including gathering business requirements, coordinating with stakeholders, and supporting system implementation and testing. The successful candidate will combine strong operational control and risk awareness with the ability to work independently and contribute to strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • The ability to perform daily collateral operations is a must-have.
  • 4+ years in financial services, preferably in collateral management, operations, or middle office.
  • Exposure to project management or business analysis (requirements gathering, documentation) is highly desirable.
  • Experience preparing and executing test scripts and participating in UAT cycles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and ability to leverage these tools for reporting, analysis, and documentation.
  • Basic understanding of financial instruments such as derivatives, repos, and fixed income products.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working in an evolving environment and contributing to process design.
  • Strong operational control orientation and risk awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage timelines and deliverables, coordinate stakeholders, and support system implementations and process improvements.
  • Skilled in requirements gathering, process mapping, and UAT execution, including test script preparation and documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of EMIR, Dodd-Frank, and other relevant regulations is desirable.
  • Experience working with audit and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to insurance-related collateral (e.g., reinsurance, life insurance transactions) is a strong plus.
  • Experience in derivatives, securities lending, or risk management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with collateral systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Process margin calls, collateral movements, and substitutions in accordance with agreements and internal policies.
  • Monitor and reconcile collateral positions across counterparties and custodians.
  • Ensure accurate valuation and allocation of collateral assets.
  • Assist in defining business requirements for collateral workflows, systems, and controls.
  • Document current-state and future-state processes and support gap analysis.
  • Prepare and execute test scripts for system enhancements and new platform implementation.
  • Participate in testing cycles, document results, and escalate issues for resolution.
  • Help design and implement new operational processes and controls with a strong risk management focus.
  • Coordinate with vendors, IT, and internal teams during testing and implementation.
  • Track project milestones and deliverables, providing status updates to stakeholders.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports on collateral positions, margin calls, and exposure metrics.
  • Support data analysis for process improvement and collateral optimization.
  • Develop trend analysis and dashboards to monitor collateral utilization, liquidity, and counterparty exposure.
  • Assist in preparing management presentations and regulatory reporting for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to enhance reporting automation and ensure data integrity across systems.
  • Communicate with counterparties, vendors, and custodians to resolve operational issues and discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Risk, Investment Operations, Derivatives, Legal) to ensure smooth execution of collateral processes.
  • Ensure all collateral activities adhere to regulatory requirements such as EMIR, Dodd-Frank, and Basel III, as well as insurance-specific regulations.
  • Support adherence to state insurance regulations governing collateral for reinsurance agreements and statutory reserve requirements.
  • Implement and monitor internal control frameworks to safeguard assets and mitigate operational risk.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for internal audits and external examinations.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to review and implement changes based on evolving insurance and financial regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records for regulatory reporting and risk management reviews, ensuring transparency and audit readiness.
