Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree; PharmD preferred.
  • Required: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the practicing state
  • Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency or 5 years of clinical pharmacy experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Clinical Pharmacist
  • Contribution to UPMC + Continuous Professional Development
  • Knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice and service, comprehensive medication management, and evidence-based medicine in a specialized area appropriate for clinical assignments
  • Pharmacist

Responsibilities

  • Designs and monitors pharmacy programs for quality, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Develops policies for drug purchasing, distribution, and control; ensures pharmacy integration within healthcare delivery.
  • Provides direct patient care, including decentralized services, medication reconciliation, and discharge counseling.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care and manage high-risk patients.
  • Reviews patient profiles to prevent drug-related problems and optimize therapy.
  • Oversees pharmacy operations, including dispensing, specialty medication procurement, and technician activities.
  • Leads education and mentorship for students, residents, and staff; develops training programs and competencies.
  • Identifies and implements improvements in medication-use systems to enhance safety, outcomes, and cost control.
  • Actively identifies practice-related issues that require evaluation and facilitates clinical research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice.
