Watch to learn more Job Summary The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II must have comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory science, including its theories, principles, and practices, as well as proficiency with automated computer systems used in laboratory settings. This includes expertise in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, thorough understanding of federal and state laboratory regulations, and strong knowledge of quality control and quality assurance standards. The role also requires familiarity with laboratory procedures and protocols across all disciplines, including chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, serology, and related testing areas. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts. Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an accredited laboratory with knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of clinical laboratory science, including the use and care of laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent post-secondary education, training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science.
  • Possess and maintain of a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist's license.
  • The ideal candidate will bring experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) in a college health setting and possess strong oral communication skills to diplomatically and effectively interact with co‑workers, staff, and departmental partners.
  • They will demonstrate a collaborative, team‑oriented approach, with the ability to coordinate closely with colleagues, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, and consistently contribute in a positive, respectful, and productive manner.
  • Reliability is essential, including consistent on‑time attendance and preparedness to perform job duties.
  • The candidate will strictly comply with HIPAA Health Care Privacy and Security laws, as well as SHS policies, procedures, and guidelines, and will stay current with state and federal laboratory requirements to maintain laboratory certifications.
  • A thorough knowledge of clinical quality control procedures and standards is required, along with comprehensive expertise across multiple laboratory disciplines chemical, physical, microscopic, microbiological, bacteriologic, serological, hematological, immunological, and related testing, as well as automated computer systems used in clinical laboratory settings and all applicable federal and state clinical laboratory regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible and diverse experience as a journey-level clinical laboratory scientist preferred.
  • National certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
  • Guide and support technical performance of laboratory staff.
  • Plan, coordinate workloads and schedules of staff to provide adequate staffing.
  • Inventory & requisition supplies to keep laboratory functioning.
  • Collects, maintains & reports statistical data.
  • Attend continuing education courses to keep abreast of new developments in clinical laboratory medicine.
  • Able to perform all technical procedures required of Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist I.
  • Able to troubleshoot instrument problems to the extent possible with a phone consultation.
  • Fulfills certain responsibilities as designated by the Laboratory Director and assists in providing input for performance reviews for CSU clinical laboratory staff.
