About The Position

The Senior Client Accounting Associate at Brown Advisory will be responsible for working with Portfolio Managers, Strategic Advisors, and Client Service Associates to address the accounting needs and complexities of high net worth clients. This role involves maintaining complete financial records, preparing checks for various client entities such as foundations, trusts, partnerships, and LLCs, and performing monthly account reconciliations. Key duties also include organizing income tax return information for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and foundations, and preparing detailed year-end tax information for third-party accountants. The associate will process bills using platforms like bill.com, manage account balances to cover withdrawals, and communicate with clients for invoice processing and cash movement approvals. Additional responsibilities include overseeing client checking account reconciliations, recording receivables and deposits, maintaining general ledger accounts, and preparing monthly financial statements and special reports. The role also requires assisting the Client Accounting team, serving as backup for colleagues, undertaking special projects, developing solutions for client issues, and acting as a liaison between CPAs and clients for tax filings and payments. Strict confidentiality of client financial information is mandatory. Furthermore, the associate will handle payroll for client employees, including calculating and preparing payroll tax deposits, quarterly tax reports, annual W-2s, W-3s, and VA-6s, maintaining employee payroll files, and researching health insurance options.

Requirements

  • 5+ years Partnership Accounting Experience
  • Quick Books Enterprise and Microsoft Excel
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail

  • Experience in individual tax
  • Ability to work in our Norfolk office location

Responsibilities

  • Work with Portfolio Managers, Strategic Advisors and Client Service Associates regarding the accounting needs and complexities of high net worth clients.
  • Maintain complete records and prepare checks for client’s foundations, trusts, partnerships, and LLC’s.
  • Reconcile accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Work with Client Services Associate when necessary.
  • Prepare checks for charitable contributions for individuals and foundations as directed.
  • Organize income tax return information for individuals, trusts, partnerships and foundations.
  • Prepare detailed year-end tax information for third party accountants.
  • Contact Investment Advisors as necessary.
  • Understand and document taxable events.
  • Process bills for payment, including using bill.com, and writing checks for other expenses: bills, payroll, investments, and gifts.
  • Maintain sufficient balance in accounts at all times to cover checks written and other miscellaneous withdrawals.
  • Check bills for accuracy and contact vendors if necessary.
  • Communicate with clients to receive approval for invoice processing and other cash movement activity they require.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of client checking accounts.
  • Record account receivables and record deposits in various bank accounts.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare monthly financial statements and special reports based on client needs.
  • Assist members of the Client Accounting team and serve as backup for some colleagues.
  • Research and complete special projects as they arise – be able to think creatively and strategically.
  • Develop and carry out solutions on the client’s behalf when problems/projects arise.
  • Work with CPAs to answer questions and serve as point of contact between CPAs and clients.
  • Assist with timely filing of all tax returns and tax payments on the client’s behalf.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client’s financial information at all times.
  • Participate in meetings with clients as requested by fellow team members.
  • Prepare payroll for the employees of clients.
  • Calculate and prepare deposits for payroll taxes for the employees of clients.
  • Prepare quarterly tax reports for the employees of clients.
  • Prepare annual W-2s, W-3s and VA-6s for the employees of clients.
  • Maintain employee payroll files, answer questions regarding employment issues, verification of employment etc. for the employees of clients.
  • Research health insurance options as needed for the employees of clients.
