As a Senior Claims Representative – Short Term Disability you will be reviewing claim forms, eligibility, medical information and vocational information to determine if Short Term Disability benefits are payable. This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. We offer 8 - 12 weeks of paid training. The hours of training will be based on your schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment. You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience reviewing and rendering initial liability determinations on Short Term Disability claims.
  • 1+ years of experience issuing payments on Short Term Disability claims
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (creating spreadsheets), Microsoft Word (creating documents) and Microsoft Outlook (drafting emails, calendar management).
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • FML, PFML and / OR Worker's Compensation claims experience
  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy

Responsibilities

  • Individuals in this position are responsible for managing a caseload of initial liability and ongoing Short Term Disability claims
  • They will effectively and professionally utilize sound judgment, technical knowledge, communication skills, and focused resources (medical, vocational, legal, etc.) to manage claims to appropriate conclusions in accordance with applicable internal and external regulations, policies and procedures
