About The Position

Our client is an advanced materials startup (well-funded) company developing revolutionary materials with applications across multiple industries. As they expand their production capabilities and transition technologies from laboratory to pilot and commercial scale, they seek an accomplished Senior Chemical Process Engineer to lead advanced process design, optimization, scale-up, and manufacturing technology development. The Senior Chemical Process Engineer is an expert-level technical role responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining the chemical manufacturing processes that enable the client’s product portfolio. This individual designs and improves production systems, establishes process controls and SOPs, evaluates equipment and technologies, and leads root-cause problem solving across complex operations. This role operates with significant technical independence and may provide leadership and mentorship within the engineering team. The ideal candidate has deep experience in chemical process development, pilot plant operations, and scaling laboratory processes into reliable and safe production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of related experience in chemical process engineering, manufacturing, or scale-up operations.
  • Strong desire to work on new products and concepts on going.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously on advanced, complex technical projects.
  • Strong foundation in process engineering fundamentals, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, and scale-up.
  • Proficiency with process simulation software and engineering modeling tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep expertise in: Chemical Process Engineering, Manufacturing Process Engineering, Materials Requirements Planning (MRP), Quality Assurance Processes, Production Operations, Industry Standards, SOP Development, and Process Simulation.
  • Experience in polymer chemistry, adhesives, coatings, or specialty chemical production environments.
  • Familiarity with pilot-plant design, commissioning, and technology transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine chemical manufacturing processes, equipment specifications, and operational methodologies for new and existing products.
  • Collaborate with R&D to translate laboratory and prototype chemistries into scalable, commercially viable unit operations.
  • Utilize process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen, ChemCAD, COMSOL) to model, analyze, and design robust manufacturing systems.
  • Identify, assess, and implement process improvements to enhance throughput, yield, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, control plans, and process documentation.
  • Establish and track key production quality metrics, ensuring process capabilities meet product requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to industry standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor production operations for safety, quality, and performance; drive corrective actions and long-term process improvements.
  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts (e.g., DMAIC, root cause analysis, failure modes evaluation) to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Advise on the selection, commissioning, and troubleshooting of production equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Integrate safety, environmental, and quality principles into all aspects of process design and operation.
  • Apply best practices for material handling, chemical storage, waste management, and safe execution of manufacturing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Partner with production, R&D, quality, procurement, and maintenance teams to ensure process readiness and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship within the engineering organization.
  • Contribute expertise to strategic projects, business initiatives, and technology roadmaps.
