About The Position

The Senior Certified Financial Coach helps people reach their financial goals through one-on-one consultations, classes, community events and partnerships and other avenues. The Senior Certified Financial Coach can help people understand their financial situation, provide options, teach money management skills, and offer encouragement to stay the course. Under the direction of the Director, Community Impact, in close collaboration with the Senior Program Manager, Financial Education and embedded in a Financial Resource Center, this position will lead Golden 1’s financial coaching in the Central Valley region. This requires developing a deep understanding of community needs, providing a judgment-free, professional environment to effectively develop personalized plans for members to financially thrive, developing an offering that meets members’ needs and leading financial coaching relationship management with members and as a representative of Golden 1 in the community The Senior Certified Financial Coach will also lead the development of community financial workshops in the region and network with organizations to promote financial services in alignment with Golden 1’s commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of all Californians. Additionally, the Financial Coach is responsible for the continued development and growth of the Credit Union’s financial literacy program, as well as relevant content creation, promotion, and solutions to improve outcomes.

Requirements

  • Effective oral, written communication, and listening skills required to give presentations, conduct coaching sessions, discuss products and services, and perform other related tasks.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills with high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy.
  • Be creative, visionary, and stay up to date with personal finance trends and best practices.
  • Must be able to read, edit, and revise materials in a timely, professional manner, in the voice of Golden 1.
  • The ability to multi-task effectively and work productively with short timelines.
  • Must possess initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate an on-line computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine, and telephone.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience in financial coaching or education.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Proven ability to meet and/or exceed individual/team service goals.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire.
  • Local community knowledge and relationships.
  • Ability to travel for business, as needed.
  • Financial Coaching/Counseling Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish and English a plus.
  • Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and growth of financial literacy in the Central Valley to help members, the public, and nonprofit partners improve their financial knowledge and thrive.
  • Lead the development of a pipeline of members who can benefit from financial coaching. Provide high- quality financial coaching to these members via one-on-one in-person and/or online sessions.
  • Gain understanding of members’ financial situations through active listening and analysis of financial documents. Identify needs, goals, and obstacles. Offer guidance, education, and accountability. Assist members in developing clear objectives and an action plan.
  • Lead reporting and analytics related to financial coaching in the region, including tracking of results and identifying and implementing means of improvement. Monitor program progress, assess impacts, make recommendations, and administer changes as approved.
  • Establish trust with members to encourage continued financial coaching to help members reach their goals, with branch staff and with community partners.
  • Design and lead key initiatives to help increase financial education awareness in the community. This includes the identification and development of partnerships with community organizations.
  • Proactively use best practices, external networking, and alternative learning methods to continually evolve financial coaching and education methods.
  • Lead the organization and delivery of personal finance workshops, including topics and cadence, that will be delivered at the Financial Resource Center and in the community.
  • Work closely with retail and other departments to implement and facilitate innovative practices necessary to further increase awareness of Golden 1 Financial Coaching offering. This may include speaking with the media.
  • Serve as mentor and professional coach to other financial coaches within Golden 1 and to staff at the Financial Resource Center to increase staff understanding of financial coaching. Maintain high-level of financial coaching skills by seeking out participating in continued skill-building trainings or conferences.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position.
  • Travel required throughout Central Valley, with some regularity to Sacramento and occasionally other regions. Variable hours and some weekends will be required.
