About The Position

The Role This position combines hands-on vehicle work, lab testing, and data analysis to develop and validate diagnostic performance for electric and hybrid vehicle systems. Diagnostic Strategists work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, managing multiple priorities and balancing planned development with emerging issues. A typical week includes in-vehicle testing at Milford, lab and bench analysis, data review, and collaboration with software, controls, and hardware teams. The role also supports onsite program evaluations and occasional offsite development trips.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive controls, diagnostics, calibration, and/or hardware development
  • Experience with electrified vehicle systems (EV/HEV)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and project planning skills
  • Experience with common calibration/diagnostic tools (e.g., INCA, Vehicle Spy, MDA, MATLAB/Simulink)
  • DFSS Black Belt (or equivalent experience)
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of onboard diagnostic (OBD) development or integration experience
  • Knowledge of software or calibration development processes
  • Experience providing technical direction or mentoring
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell, or similar)
  • Experience presenting to or working with senior leadership
  • Knowledge of global OBD regulations (e.g., CARB, China 6)

Responsibilities

  • Define and document system-level diagnostic requirements.
  • Develop and execute diagnostic development plans to meet performance, timing, and regional regulatory requirements.
  • Design and manage system interfaces to support reuse and best practices.
  • Analyze vehicle and test data to identify issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Design and conduct tests to validate diagnostic performance.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of vehicle, plant, durability, and customer concerns.
  • Identify system risks or vulnerabilities and drive mitigation plans.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to other engineers.
  • Represent the diagnostic team in program execution and strategy reviews.
  • Monitor production performance, warranty trends, and Product Health metrics.
  • Ensure all work is performed with safety as the top priority.
