About The Position

A Diagnostic Calibration Engineer plans and executes tests to develop and calibrate transmission diagnostic features compliant with OBD regulations, and in support of system safety requirements. This position works closely in a team environment while playing an integral role in each transmission controls program. The Diagnostic Calibration Engineer is responsible for testing and verifying diagnostic algorithms and associated calibrations using a combination of a test bench, test dynamometers, vehicle, and system simulation methods. In addition, developing, maintaining, and executing test plans to ensure proper integration of diagnostics algorithms within the transmission and vehicle embedded systems. Deliverables include the following: calibration guides, detailed test plans, documentation of test results, production released diagnostic calibrations and transmission certification documentation. The Diagnostic Engineer is integral in our team’s success for on time execution of General Motors expanding transmission portfolio. The calibration engineers are engaged in transmission programs from the early stages of product development, through validation, product launch and after sales service. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Mathematical or a related Engineering degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • Minimum of 3 years of calibration and/or transmission development experience
  • Basic knowledge of embedded diagnostic functions
  • Familiarity with the California Air Resource Board (CARB) OBDII Regulations and Requirements
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 Road Vehicle - Functional Safety Standards
  • Proficient in ETAS/INCA/CRETA data acquisition, processing, and analysis
  • Embedded system development, verification, and validation experience
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to powertrain calibration work
  • High level of analytical ability and creative thinking where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively lead across technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully accomplish tasks under minimal supervision
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willing and able to travel (up to 5%)

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 7 or more years of calibration engineering experience
  • Powertrain controls experience
  • Transmission or Engine calibration experience
  • Transmission operational knowledge
  • Hardware in the Loop (HIL) experience
  • Familiar with C code
  • Experience with Serial Data busses, including CAN, GMLAN, LIN
  • DFSS Black Belt certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop calibrations that deliver OBD compliant systems while exceeding customer expectations
  • Document calibration procedures and create calibration guides
  • Optimize calibrations through simulation, bench testing, in vehicle data collection and analysis
  • Document results in engineering reports; address any test non-conformities
  • Work with algorithm engineers to support development of new functions, test plans and procedures as required
  • Support vehicle development, durability and warranty analysis and problem resolution
  • Support Chief Reviews
  • Assist others in calibrating
  • Conduct and participate in peer reviews and master calibration reviews
  • Communicate and consult with engineering departments and customers
  • Provide status and support the team to achieve objectives at program milestones
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products
