POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Buyer will lead the on-site purchasing team’s efforts in securing from outside sources various sourcing requirements to include raw materials, supplies, consumables, and services used to produce, or support the production of, finished goods. The Senior Buyer will work assigned materials and other daily buying tasks as well as supervise and provide guidance and training to assigned purchasing specialists. The Senior Buyer ensures compliance with accepted procurement practices with particular attention to on time and in full delivery, inventory optimization, supplier quality, supplier performance/relationship management and price/cost management when applicable. The execution of these tasks shall be conducted with the highest level of personal, professional, and ethical conduct. These procedures involve direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, Sales, Customer Service, Engineering, Marketing, and Operational staff to help ensure customer fulfillment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Business Management or similar field.
  • High level of knowledge in material planning and manufacturing process. Broad knowledge of supply/demand process, category management and strategic sourcing.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail
  • Understanding of Lean principles
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • All candidates must be eligible to work on government contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply chain Professional (CSCP) a plus.
  • Lean or Green Belt Six Sigma certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes sourcing strategies for both direct and indirect spend that optimizes price/cost, lead-time, inventory positions, and security of supply.
  • Selects, assesses, approves, and onboards new suppliers; manages supplier performance and supplier relations.
  • Collaboratively plans and executes purchasing support of new product development programs with other functional areas such as technical, production, quality and others.
  • Supervises assigned buyers, creating individual development/training plans and managing buyer performance.
  • Assesses, manages, and mitigates risk associated with their assigned spend.
  • Develops and executes profit improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops and deploys purchasing process, policy, and best practices.
  • Analyzes spend to identify opportunities to drive out cost, manage risk, and add value
  • Performs other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
