About The Position

The Senior Buyer is responsible for negotiating contractual arrangements between Hunterdon Health and selected suppliers, committing funds to ensure the procurement of high quality equipment, services, supplies and other products, at optimum cost, within fiduciary guidelines.  Prepares and evaluates bids; awards contracts for large dollar relationships and purchases.  Negotiates for cost savings and other value added benefits with every purchase opportunity. Maintains oversight of all non acute location procurement, including formulary standardization and adherence. Utilizes Infor as the standard purchasing application, with other appropriate protocols.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3-5 years advanced training with courses in purchasing or other related business courses
  • Computer knowledge is essential, with knowledge of cost analysis process.
  • Advanced use in excel.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with various types of people and levels.
  • Must have thorough understanding of methods and procedures for negotiation, prudent purchasing practice, inventory control, shipping and receiving procedures and market conditions.
  • Has basic knowledge of contract law.
  • Has basic understanding of clinical supply and equipment use and application.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Contracts Administrator, ensures all contracts for services, supplies and equipment are negotiated favorably and within the bounds of either GPO or local agreements, according to health system priorities and parameters
  • Ensures all opportunities for contracted services and supplies are consolidated for maximum cost savings or cost avoidance achievements, in alignment with department goals
  • Maintains formulary standardization for all non-acute spend for like items, and vets requests for additions to the formulary, driving the requests through the Value Analysis process
  • Assists with and places capital equipment acquisitions while monitoring contract utilization
  • Provides support on new strategic programs and projects
  • Supports Information Services and ensures processes are followed and tracked for accountability and repeatability
  • Consistently works SCIS messages and feedback in a timely manner, including order rejections, buyer messages, invoice discrepancies and contract mismatches
