About The Position

Quanex is looking for a Senior Buyer to join our team located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Senior Buyer is responsible for the day-to-day execution of purchase orders across an established supplier base supporting Quanex's manufacturing and distribution operations. This is a procurement execution role with senior-level ownership: the right candidate brings discipline to PO accuracy, delivery performance, and supplier accountability while building strong working relationships with key vendors. This role does not require sourcing new suppliers from scratch but does require the experience and confidence to manage supplier performance, resolve issues, and escalate when needed. We Offer You! Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relevant field is required, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years manufacturing and/or purchasing experience required.
  • Procurement execution knowledge, including PO lifecycle, and SAP transactions.
  • The ability to communicate issues and drive accountability.
  • Inventory management skills, understanding lead times, MOQs, and demand.
  • Strong Analytical and data skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchase orders end-to-end for assigned categories, from creation through closure.
  • Ensure PO accuracy for pricing, quantities, delivery dates, and contract terms before release.
  • Monitor open POs and proactively follow up with suppliers on late or at-risk deliveries.
  • Process order confirmations, changes, cancellations, and maintain clean PO hygiene in SAP.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned suppliers and manage ongoing relationships.
  • Hold suppliers accountable to agreed lead times, fill rates, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with supply planning and operations to align ordering with production and inventory targets.
  • Identify and communicate supply risks, shortages, and excess inventory trends.
  • Maintain accurate supplier and item master data; track and report procurement KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, audit requirements, and support process improvements.
