About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Box Program Eligibility Specialist works under the general direction and guidance of the Senior Box Supervisor. The Senior Box Program Eligibility Specialist will report to assigned sites within the Houston Food Bank network to process clients and distribute boxes of Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) food to a set caseload of qualified Senior Box Program clients (based on guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture and Department of Agriculture (USDA/TDA) throughout each month with the highest level of professionalism and customer service. Transparency: Doing things openly and honestly). ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reliable, consistent, attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and taking part in meetings and presentations. Responsible for processing clients to receive a Senior Box Program package – this is done by verifying IDs; program status; re-certifying existing clients; and enrolling new participants according to age and income guidelines; collecting a signature from each client electronically through the database program Link2Feed; issuing Senior Box Program box tickets (and cheese in most cases) to eligible participants; and referring non-eligible participants to alternative Houston Food Bank programs and services. Directs and advises clients when needed, helping in the planning, scheduling, and execution of the distribution at sites – including, but not limited to preparing copies of support documents/tickets; preparing client reminders when sites are moved, rescheduled, or canceled or to inform the client of distribution; suggesting alternate sites when extra boxes need to be distributed; composing call lists, and verifying with management regarding the scheduling. Participates in distributions at site distributions to ensure that clients have an excellent distribution experience – including helping outside distributing products to ensure that each senior participant is served on time and with a smile. Safekeeping and proper maintenance of the computer equipment used for box issuance and the client information gathered. Demonstrates ability to work independently to complete administrative duties and preparation of future distributions daily.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate and 1+ years of community program experience.
  • In lieu of experience a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Arts or Science, Social Work, Business, Humanities, Marketing, or a closely related field required
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn new software systems
