The Position Roche Sequencing Solutions, Inc. seeks a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at its Pleasanton, CA location. Duties: Responsible for designing and developing in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays, including troubleshooting to ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity across various stages of the development process. Work closely with bioinformatics scientists, wet lab scientists, and other stakeholders to implement and support tools and workflows for assay development. Develop and maintain algorithms and internal tools that support the optimization and improvement of assay design processes. Perform data analysis for assay validation, ensuring accuracy in interpretation and providing actionable insights to improve outcomes. Document research processes, findings, and results in detailed reports for internal review and regulatory compliance. Provide training and guidance to team members on new tools, processes, and methodologies related to assay development. May telecommute up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field and 1 year of experience in job offered or related position
  • Utilizing multiple machine learning tools for developing models, with experience in models including Markov models, hierarchical clustering, k-means clustering, logistic regression, random forests, and SVMs
  • Utilizing neural networks using frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, and PySpark and familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS and Microsoft Azure
  • Developing computational pipelines using large sequencing datasets in python and bash using platforms including snakemake
  • PCR and ELISA data analysis
  • Conducting homology analysis with BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool)
  • Analysis and designing primers
  • Project and inventory management
  • Expertise in programming languages such as R and Python, particularly in a distributed HPC Linux environment
  • Managing genetic data storage and retrieval using platforms including Galaxy
  • Visualizing data using R, UGENE, and Geneious
