About The Position

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Avionics Integration Engineer, supporting the Fixed Wing Branch HC/MC-130 Recapitalization Program. This is an ACAT IC program designed to replace the aging fleet of Air Combat Command (ACC) HC-130P/N aircraft and Air Force (AF) Special Operations Command (AFSOC) MC-130E/H/P.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
  • Clearance: Secret
  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in a related field and ten years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, five years of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in a related field and 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, five of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR, 15 years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the PWS labor category performance requirements, eight of which must be in the DoD.
  • Degree from an American Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • Systems Engineering & Requirements Management
  • Ability to apply systems engineering processes, including requirements generation, traceability, configuration audits, and technical reviews.
  • Familiarity with tools like IBM Rational System Architect and DOORS.
  • Avionics Integration & Airworthiness Certification
  • Expertise in integrating avionics systems (embedded computers, sensors, defensive systems) and ensuring compliance with MIL-HDBK-516 for airworthiness and MIL-STD-882 for safety.
  • Data Bus & Communication Standards
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, and ARINC 610 standards for avionics and simulator integration.

  • Ability to conduct system-level modeling, simulation, and trade-off studies for performance, survivability, and cost-benefit analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Apply DoD acquisition principles (DoDD 5000 series) and AFMC/AFLCMC engineering policies to SOF engineering tasks.
  • Provide systems and avionics engineering support in: Requirements generation, system design, integration, modification, testing, airworthiness, and sustainment.
  • Perform trade-off studies, system performance analysis, and develop specifications.
  • Support airworthiness determinations, Military Flight Release (MFR), and MACC development per MIL-HDBK-516.
  • Apply systems engineering processes for: Requirements traceability, configuration audits, interoperability, and test verification/validation.
  • Interface with DoD agencies, AFMC labs, industry, and universities to exploit emerging technologies.
  • Support avionics integration for airborne weapon systems, including: Integrated avionics, embedded computer systems, software, and electronic maintenance systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSS&E, MIL-STD-882 safety standards, and ESOH processes per DoDI 6055.05.
  • Assist in development and sustainment of training systems, including modeling and simulation.
  • Participate in design reviews, TIMs, configuration boards, and interoperability working groups.
  • Provide advisory assistance for acquisition documentation (PWS, RFPs, CDRLs) and source selection support.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering principles and DoD acquisition processes.
  • Experience with avionics integration and lifecycle engineering for military aircraft.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, and ARINC 610 standards.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness certification (MIL-HDBK-516), safety (MIL-STD-882), and Life Cycle Systems Engineering (DAFI 63-1201).
  • Ability to conduct system-level integration, interface management, and risk assessments.
  • Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and architecture modeling tools (e.g., IBM RSA).
