About The Position

The Boeing Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) has an exciting opportunity for Senior Avionics Flight Systems Responsible Engineer to join the Avionics & Software (AV&SW) Flight Systems team in Huntsville, Alabama, on the Space Launch System (SLS) program contracts. National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) SLS is the one of the most powerful rockets in the world and offers unprecedented capabilities related to payload mass, volume and energy to enable deep space crewed/uncrewed exploration. SLS is designed to be flexible and evolvable and will open new opportunities for crewed deep space missions. The Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) is SLS's first evolution of design improvements to enhance those capabilities as part of the Block 1B SLS Architecture.

Requirements

  • This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
  • 5+ years of experience with power distribution controllers design and test
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Successful candidates for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in power distribution controller design
  • Experience in one or more of these focused areas: analog/digital circuits, firmware/Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), serial and parallel communication protocols, radio frequency
  • Good communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Creo Parametric/Windchill
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Previous design team or special project team participation
  • Experience of Printed Wiring Board (PWB) design processes
  • Experience MIL-STD-1553, ethernet, RS-422 and other communication protocols
  • Experience of test equipment including signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes

Responsibilities

  • Designs electronic hardware focused on space launch vehicle applications
  • Develops avionics assembly designs primarily focused on Electrical Power Systems (EPS) - Power distribution/control and battery design and testing to include controller and remote power controllers (RPCs)
  • Oversees the development, production and testing of the Power Distribution Control Unit (PDCU) supporting the Electrical Power Systems (EPS) team.
  • Provides technical, business and integration leadership for the development and execution of project or team plans
  • Develops, documents and maintains electronic and electrical system requirements according to customer desires and contract requirements
  • Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.
  • Develops of statements-of-work and technical performance specifications
  • Develops of test plans/procedures and supports the execution test events
  • Leads Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations and resolutions
  • Executes various methods of testing and analysis to support design and production and to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Works with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products
  • Leads formal trade studies and literature research to support future product designs
  • Develops solutions to technical problems
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.
  • Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Completed work is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long-term perspective.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
