In this role, as part of the Product team, the Senior Automation Integration Engineer will be instrumental in the design and development of the next generation of material flow strategies for Target. These solutions will involve many types of automation including robotics, sortation and conveyance, controls integration, vision systems, and process development and optimization. Target is looking for an individual that is a self-starter who can work independently and provide a level of creative and innovative thinking that is essential to the supply chain design solutions. This position will report to the Director of Engineering for the Global Supply Chain and Logistics organization.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5+ years integrating OT systems, industrial data platforms, or automation solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and event-driven integration frameworks (MQTT, Kafka, OPC UA, REST).
  • Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems (Ignition preferred) and industrial automation (PLCs, sensors, vendor systems).
  • Understanding of data modeling, topic/naming structures, and publish/subscribe architectures (experience with Unified Namespace strongly preferred or a strong willingness to learn).
  • Experience with databases and streaming ecosystems (Postgres, Hive, Kafka, Splunk, MQTT).
  • Able to write maintainable, testable code and create clear system/documentation artifacts.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills; comfortable operating in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Build and support OT data pipelines that connect PLCs, SCADA, sensors, vendor platforms, edge systems, and cloud applications using protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, Kafka, and REST.
  • Contribute to the development of a Unified Namespace (UNS) that standardizes OT data ingestion, modeling, and publication across equipment and sites.
  • Develop and maintain integrations that feed curated operational and maintenance signals into Maximo MAS, while enabling richer telemetry streams for analytics platforms.
  • Enhance and extend Ignition (Jetson) by building connectors, ingestion modules, and edge-to-cloud data flows.
  • Design and implement reusable integration patterns, data models, and documentation that improve reliability and reduce integration complexity across the network.
  • Troubleshoot complex data, integration, and automation issues across OT and IT systems, ensuring stable operations and long-term fixes.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, maintenance, and vendors to understand data needs and deliver solutions that support condition-based and predictive maintenance.
  • Participate in agile development, contribute to coding best practices, and support continuous improvement of integration workflows and data foundations.
