About The Position

This position is responsible for conducting legal research and providing analysis, counsel, and representation for the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA), the Florida Supreme Court, Florida Supreme Court Committees, and other Courts within the State Courts System (SCS). The position generally operates within the following subject matter areas: garnishment proceedings; rule petitions; Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program; and problem-solving court committees. The position reports directly to the OSCA General Counsel and engages in other tasks or legal issues as assigned by the General Counsel, the State Courts Administrator, or the Florida Supreme Court.

Requirements

  • The successful applicant must possess a Juris Doctorate, be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar, and possess at least five years of related work experience, including three years of experience in the appropriate specialty area of law for the position.
  • Knowledge of legal research techniques or methods and applicable sources of law.
  • Skill in analyzing legal issues and applying legal principles to facts.
  • Strong, persuasive legal writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly in both oral and written form.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have criminal law experience, possess strong legal writing and research skills, or have extensive experience with or knowledge of Florida State Courts System operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support to Court programs, committees, or forums as assigned. This may include the Court Interpreter Certification and Regulation Program, the Steering Committee on Problem-Solving Courts, Court Emergency Management Team/Group, Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee, and judicial campaign conduct forums.
  • Conduct legal research and provide appropriate correspondence.
  • Provide counsel and guidance to the Office of the State Courts Administrator, Florida Supreme Court, and other Courts within the State Courts System on employee and branch-related ethics matters.
  • Monitor and analyze civil and branch-related legislation.
  • Coordinate fulfilling public records requests.
